RESULT: Kenneth Dube Wins the Qualifying School.
On another glorious beautiful, bright, hot, and clear day at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club, Kenneth Dube showed his class and held his nerve to be the leading qualifier in a field of 41 entrants. He followed his first round 76 with a superb 68 in round 2 that included six birdies. Kenneth began the last nine holes with three 3’s, the amen corner of the tough East Course that played longer than in round one.
The course dried out from the recent heavy storms and it was in pristine condition. Others to show their ability to compete on the Senior Tour were Michael Du Toit, Michael Scholtz, Rob Wiederkehr, Peter Banda as well as amateur Deon Joubert.
The Sunshine Senior Tour hopes to start tournament play next month and beyond to the end of November, given that the Covid-19 rules will allow. Congratulations to those who obtained their top 10 and conditional card playing privileges.
Day 1: Deon Joubert leads the Qualifying School.
On a bright, hot, and clear day at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club, an amateur leads the qualifiers after the first round with a score of 74. The East Course proved to be a big test even though the tees were up and the course shortened somewhat.
Fast greens and a few tricky pin positions had scores soaring from the field of golfers seeking playing privileges on the Senior Tour in 2021. Many started very well but could not sustain their momentums as holes like the 3rd,4th, 10th, and 11th took their toll.
There are nine players on five over par or better and the cut for the top 15 appears to be in the region of 12 over par total for the 36-hole event.
